How to add blank pages to a PDF in 4 steps
FreePDFLab runs entirely in your browser, so the steps below happen on your device without anything being uploaded to a server.
Upload your PDF
Drop the file onto the upload area or click to browse. Blank pages are inserted on your device — the PDF is never uploaded.
Pick where the blank pages go
Choose whether to insert at the start of the document, at the end, or at a specific page position. Specify how many blank pages to add.
Run the insert
Click "Process". FreePDFLab inserts the new pages and rebuilds the PDF using pdf-lib. Page numbers shift accordingly.
Preview and download
Preview the result to confirm the blank pages landed in the right place, then download the updated PDF.
Why add blank pages to a PDF with FreePDFLab
Booklet printing
Many booklet layouts need a blank first or last page so two-sided printing aligns correctly. Adding the blank page in advance avoids printer surprises.
Note space in handouts
Insert a blank page after every chapter or section so readers have space to make notes. A few seconds in FreePDFLab vs. rebuilding the deck in PowerPoint.
Separator pages
Add blank pages between sections of a combined report so each section starts on a fresh sheet when printed.
Private and free
Insertion runs locally. No upload, no account, no watermark. Free for any number of insertions, on any size PDF your device can open.
Frequently asked questions
What size are the inserted blank pages?
The blank pages match the size of the existing pages in the PDF (typically Letter or A4). If the document mixes page sizes, the inserted blank uses the size of the page it is inserted next to.
Can I insert blank pages at a specific position?
Yes. Choose "After page N" and the new blank pages slot in immediately after that page, shifting later pages forward.
Will adding blank pages re-render the existing pages?
No. The existing pages are kept byte-identical — only the page sequence and total count change. Text stays selectable, images stay sharp.
Is there a limit on how many blank pages I can add?
There is no fixed limit since the insert is local. In practice, inserting hundreds of blank pages takes a few seconds even on a phone.
Is my PDF uploaded when I add blank pages?
No. The insertion happens in your browser. The PDF stays on your device.
Can I add a blank page with a custom size?
Not yet. The current tool uses the size of the adjacent pages. Custom-sized blank insertions are on the roadmap.
